Shelfanger Parish Council New Year Message 2021
The Chair of Shelfanger Parish Council wishes everyone a Happy New year although 2021 has not started that well. Another lock down creates further challenges for us all but hopefully the vaccine will help to restore normality before too long.
The serious flooding that occurred on the night of the 23rd December affected houses, cars and Christmas plans for many. Consequently pressure is going to be put to bear on all riparian owners and Norfolk Council for them to recognise that ditches must be kept clear.
A quantity of sandbags have now been replaced by South Norfolk Council and are stored at the Village Hall and at the junction with Wash Lane and Heywood Road.
Just before Christmas we learnt of the passing of Malcolm Barnard who had suffered with his health for some years. However, in the past he had been a stalwart member of the village community, having stood as the Chair of the village hall for over eight years. During his time in office he organised the first Burn’s night supper and as a keen Shelfanger football supporter he instigated the addition of the village hall changing rooms. Mrs Barnard and family wish to thank everyone for their kind messages of condolence. Malcolm will be sorely missed.
Also Mrs Sheila Churchyard sadly passed away on 7th January. She too was an active member of the community having served on the Parish Council and was very much involved with All Saints Church. Our thoughts go out to her husband Derek.
